Activation and Oxidation of Mesitylene C−H Bonds by (Phebox)Iridium(III) Complexes

A pincer iridium(III) complex, (Phebox)Ir(OAc)2OH2 (1) (Phebox = 3,5-dimethylphenyl-2,6-bis(oxazolinyl)), selectively cleaves the benzylic C−H bond of mesitylene to form an isolable iridium mesityl complex, (Phebox)Ir(mesityl)(OAc) (3), in >90% yield. The trifluoroacetate analogue, (Phebox)Ir(OCOCF3)2OH2 (2), was synthesized to compare with complex 1 for C−H activation, and (Phebox)Ir(mesityl)(...

Co(III)@Fe3O4@SiO2 salen complex as a highly selective and recoverable magnetic nanocatalyst for the oxidation of sulfides and benzylic alcohols

In this study, Co (III) salen complex was synthesized and immobilized onto the surface of Fe3O4@SiO2 magnetic nanoparticle. The heterogeneous nanocatalyst was characterized by different techniques including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), nitrogen adsorption−desorption isotherm (BET), ...

Setting Cyclohexane Stereochemistry with Oxidation

Thanks to its atomand step-economy, C–H bond oxidation represents a “hot topic” in synthetic chemistry. However, due to the ubiquity of such bonds in organic molecules, regioand enantioselective C–H bond oxidation turns out to be extremely challenging, and efficient direct methods are in high demand. Compared to the success of aliphatic sp C–H oxidation by enzymes (such as cytochrome P450, Figu...

Catalytic Enantioselective Carbon-Oxygen Bond Formation: Phosphine-Catalyzed Synthesis of Benzylic Ethers via the Oxidation of Benzylic C-H Bonds.

Benzylic alcohols and ethers are common subunits in bioactive molecules, as well as useful intermediates in organic chemistry. In this Communication, we describe a new approach to the enantioselective synthesis of benzylic ethers through the chiral phosphine-catalyzed coupling of two readily available partners, γ-aryl-substituted alkynoates and alcohols, under mild conditions. In this process, ...

A mononuclear non-heme manganese(IV)-oxo complex binding redox-inactive metal ions.

Redox-inactive metal ions play pivotal roles in regulating the reactivities of high-valent metal-oxo species in a variety of enzymatic and chemical reactions. A mononuclear non-heme Mn(IV)-oxo complex bearing a pentadentate N5 ligand has been synthesized and used in the synthesis of a Mn(IV)-oxo complex binding scandium ions. The Mn(IV)-oxo complexes were characterized with various spectroscopi...
